Have you ever thought how you could help with diabetes research?Patient and Public Involvement

Welcome to the Patient & Public Involvement section of our website. Read on to find out how you can get involved in diabetes research in North West London.

What do we mean by Involvement?

People tend to think involvement in research means participation in a clinical trial. But there are other ways of getting involved….

Getting involved in research is about people working alongside researchers and becoming actively involved in the research cycle below.

This could include:

  • Helping to identify important & meaningful research areas
  • Assisting with the design of a research study
  • Helping to promote research across the region

research cycle

How can you help?

We have been talking to people around the region to find out how we can involve you in our activities. As a result we have planned several tasks that will provide real life examples of the benefits of involving people.

But just as importantly, we think these tasks will give you the chance to learn more about diabetes research, and lots of other skills along the way.

We have developed a Patient & Public Involvement Portal to make it as easy as possible for people across the region to get involved with our activities.

The portal is a secure website with lots of information on patient & public involvement, the network and the activities we are running. It is also interactive — this means we are able to communicate with each other without meeting face to face and lots of emails.

Alongside this we will also use the post and telephone, along with workshops and meetings so people without internet access can get involved too.

Participating in a clinical trial or research study

Without people volunteering to particpate in clinical trials and research studies, clinical research simply would not happen.

It is vital for progress in healthcare that patients, their carers and family members continue to support clinical trials and research studies by volunteering to participate.

If you would like to find out more about what it is like to particpate and what happens during clinical trials and research studies, please contact:
