Working to improve care for people with diabetes

Welcome to the North West London Diabetes Research Network

The population in North West London is approximately 2 million and is one of the fastest growing in the UK. The Quality and Outcomes Framework data for 2006-07 indicates that around 79,000 people are registered with diabetes but the figure is likely to be much higher.

North West London serves an ethnically and culturally diverse population. It has some of the most ethnically diverse wards in the country – around 35% of the local population belongs to ethnic minority groups (mainly Indian sub continent and African – Caribbean origin).

The region is also characterised by areas of great affluence alongside significant deprivation. Health status across the region is as varied as the population, with significant inequalities in life expectancy and disease prevalence.
