North East & Cumbria Diabetes Local Research Network
Public
The Diabetes Research Network is funded by the Department of Health and is part of the UK Clinical Research Network, which is developing support for research in a range of conditions.
Clinical research is the study of a new treatment in human beings, ranging from a new drug or vaccine to education or self management programs.
Research is very important to improve diagnosis and treatment, and possibly help cure or prevent diabetes in the future.
People tend to think involvement in research means participation in a clinical trial. But there are other ways of being involved. Getting involved in research is about people working alongside researchers and becoming actively involved in the research cycle below.
This could include:
- Helping to identify important & meaningful research areas
- Assisting with the design of a research study
- Helping to promote research across the region
Without people volunteering to participate in clinical trials and research studies, clinical research simply would not happen.
It is vital for progress in healthcare that patients, their carers and family members continue to support clinical trials and research studies by volunteering to participate.
If you would like to find out more about what it is like to participate and what happens during clinical trials and research studies, please contact:
