Frequently Asked Questions for patients and the public

Q. There is no Diabetes Local Research Network in my region but I want to contribute to trials. What other options do I have?

A. Many research centres in regions not covered by Diabetes Local Research Network (LRN) centres are linking with nearby Diabetes LRNs and taking part in research studies. Registering with the DRN will allow your nearest Diabetes LRN to contact you with information about activities. Alternatively, you might wish to contact your nearest Comprehensive Local Research Network centre to ask about local activities.

Q. I have a young child who is diabetic. Can I register on their behalf?

A. Yes, you can register yourself as a ‘Parent of someone with diabetes’

Q. I was emailed a patient advocate application form but it won’t open on my computer. Can I have a copy sent through the post?

A. Yes, please send an email to [email protected] to request a copy to be posted to you.

Q. I was sent the DRN update by email but it won’t open on my computer.

A. To open the update, you will need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer. If you wish to do so, you can download the software from the following web link - http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/

Q. I am not based in the UK. Can I still be involved?

A. The DRN’s research activities are centred in the UK, but some Patient & Public Involvement activities may include views and perspectives of individuals from overseas. Registering your details will allow the DRN coordinating centre to contact you about these activities.

Q. I’m registered with the DRN but I have recently changed address. Can my details be updated or do I need to register again?

A. You will not need to register again. Please send an email to [email protected] to notify us of your new address, and we will update your records on our system.

Q. I want to unsubscribe from the DRN email updates. How can I do this?

A. Send an email to [email protected] with the subject ‘Unsubscribe’ and we will remove your details from our mailing list without question.

Q. I’d like more information about the types of studies that are going on in diabetes at the moment, where can I get this?

A. A searchable, publicly available database of the trials and studies currently going on within the DRN can be found within the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network website
